if you wait long enough only the universes without a black hole will be signifigant so information is preserved – Stephen Hawking

Jeff and I watched a Stephen Hawking special the other day, & this quote seemed signifigant at the time.  So much for staying alive right? I don’t know you guys, I have been doing the same thing for so long,  I think I’m just going to keep doing it.  It’s almost a year now since Jeff and I started our weight loss program, both of us have been pretty successful at it – I still remember how I felt when we started though  – how difficult it was to get around the track even one time, and now I can go six times and it kind of feels like not enough?  What I learned I think is that it IS possible to change, and how you do it is by making small choices  every day that seem pointless at the time, but are actually super important.  Pretty soon I am going to slap a ComixPress theme on here and start posting Cherry Spaceship.  I’ll try not to lose the past posts in the process, but I’m not going to cry too much if I do.  Even if I have to start the comic out one page at a time, and feel not really sure about where I’m going or what I’m doing, I’m still going to do it and I’m going to trust the one foot in front of the other thing that I’ve got going on here and hope it takes us somewhere cool.

Thanks for reccomending this portrait subject Wes, I really enjoyed learning about Conchita Cintron, and spending a few days marvelling over her fierce beauty!

    Respect.

I was orignially going to do Clark Gable for my next portrait – then I saw this photo of Aretha Franklin on my tumblr. I probably should not have tried to portrait this photo, I have a feeling that Aretha Franklin may be permanently beyond my skill level, but I have never stopped doing something just because I was bad at it, and I’m too old to start now that’s for sure.

On the positive side, I got to spend all week studying this photo of Aretha Franklin, many breathtaking hours per day since sunday afternoon. It’s a shame I could not get it to be better than this, but it’s officially time to move on.

The next portrait is an audience request that is pretty amazing, I think you guys will like it. Clark Gable will also happen. I have about 5 portrait ideas in the pipe and audience requests are still considered!  Thanks for the support you guys, I appreciate it.

Dear Emma, I’m also thankful for birth control and the 40 hour work week.

Portraits are scary to do but also fun, I’m going to keep it up for a while. Thank you for your kind comments, also I will consider audience suggestions for portrait subjects!

In service to my wistful fairy space girl princesses, I decided I need to break and spend a little of my time working from ref, doing some portraits, working my art muscles, learning to see better & who better to start out with than our dear heart’s mother, adora-thug Emma Goldman.

I started reading her autobiography this year, and she sure does have a wonderful voice. Thank you Emma Goldman for all your hard work, I sure do appreciate living in this world where I dont’ have to wear such a ridiculous outfit as you have on in this picture.

I don’t know if it’s too late now to speak of such things, but I wanted you guys to know that I made a new year’s resolution:

”This year, I’m going to come back to life.”

It’s loosely defined -  It’s more of an urge than a sentence I guess. But it’s there now to be obeyed, so that, in the past when I might have chosen to shut off, now I’m going to choose to turn on. I used to think it was important to be careful,  now I understand that it is necessary to be reckless.

So, last weekend I got to drag out my watercolors and make something! I got to spend almost three days with all my crap scattered over the dining room table, and do basically nothing but work out experiments. It was pretty nice! Life is good like that these days and I get to spend almost all of my time working hard on drawing and painting, and thinking about drawing and painting!  This is pretty much exactly how I like my life to be so I must have made a correct choice at a crossroads at some point, somewhere.

You guys, I have decided I’m going to start up a new webcomic, (you may have seen me mention Cherry Spaceship before?) because I really miss the fun of doing comics. It’s in my blood and won’t come out.  HOWEVER, for this time I have to write it myself, and writing is a pain in the ass. BUT in this case it is necessary to persevere, so I’m making myself write sentences every day, and things are coming together. It is going to be a long form webcomic like Busted Wonder was, online on my own site. (I refuse to give up my independence, I accept any hardship that comes along with that decision.) Cherry Spaceship is a story about finite biological organisms living in an infinite universe. There will be robots, spaceships, and fights.  It will be up soon-ish. This year. I will try to remember how time on earth works and plan accordingly.

In the mean time, I decided to start up a tumblr:  http://www.penciltool.tumblr.com

If you are on tumblr, please follow me so I can follow you back. I don’t think I’m going to re-post the art I make for there here, so you may want to grab the rss at the top. (I will re-post it on flickr, if you follow me there then you are good).

HERE I will continue to post things that I make that are not done with the pencil tool in photoshop, including more writing.  I still haven’t told you about my wedding, and I have a thing I want to write about Naruto. I apologise about the legarthy that has been living here since I got married, but I have been angry about the fact that in the united states of america in the year 2010, the gays are not allowed to marry each other, so on the best day of my life I have to feel vaguely like shit because I can enjoy a civil right that my friends can’t? F-ed UP, PEOPLE OF EARTH!  EFFED UP.  But I’ll keep that for later, thanks as always for your kind attention and support, & let’s all keep moving forward in a positive direction!
